1. Most hazard alerts should not expire

   When a hazard alert, such as a construction zone or a stopped vehicle is posted, it should not simply expire. It should remain active until a user explicitly responds that it's "Not there."

   There's no reason that a long-term construction project, for example, should have to be reported repeatedly day after day for months. The same applies to most types of alerts, such as broken traffic lights and potholes. Once the hazard is gone, users will say so. Until then, it should remain active.

3. Stop blocking excessive reporting

   There are a huge number of pot holes in Sydney due to the floods and rainfall. I was reporting each and every one until I got flagged for excessive reporting noting my account would be blocked from reporting. If this is designed to be a community app, remove this feature blocking people so we can save damage to our vehicles and potentially save lives.

4. Go now

   The Go Now needs to go! Less frills leads to better app performance. The taxi option for the vehicle type should remove some unnecessary functions in order to make the app faster. The U-turn suggestion usually adds many hundreds of meters while usually there are options closer to my location.

5. Commercial routing

   Commercial Route option; helps avoid roads and highways that either limit by weight or commercial vehicles in general.

   I utilize a commercial vehicle mainly by label in Connecticut and they restrict routes for these vehicles. Waze doesn’t know that and impossible to navigate around

6. Alert for run-down animals

   English: We members of a robotics team created a new Waze alert. Imagine how much will be feasible alert when someone saw or trampled an animal? Usually the people don’t know what do when they trample an animal, if the Waze has this option the rescue of these animals will be easier of be accomplished and the animals will not die for staying for a long time waiting to they be ransomed.
   Will have an animal run-off alert (just as they already exist the camera alerts, per example) when the user to click on this alert he will notify if the animal is wild, domestic or if he could not identify, and if is a large or small animal.
   As in accidents the user also will be able to take a picture or comment something. The environmental police and the fire department (that are the organs that rescue the animals run down) will use the live map, which is already a resource available in the website, to do the rescues.
   What do you think of the idea?

   Portuguese: Nós integrantes de uma equipe de robótica criamos um novo alerta para o Waze. Imagina o quão será viável alertar quando alguém visse ou atropelasse um animal? Geralmente as pessoas não sabem o que fazer quando atropelam um animal, se o Waze tiver esta opção o resgate destes animais será mais fácil de ser realizado e os animais não morrerão por ficar muito tempo esperando para serem resgatados.
   Haverá um alerta de atropelamento de animal (assim como já existe os de radares, por exemplo) quando o usuário clicar neste alerta ele notificará se o animal é silvestre, doméstico ou se não conseguiu identificar, e se o animal é de grande ou pequeno porte. Assim como em acidentes o usuário também poderá tirar foto ou comentar algo. A polícia ambiental e o corpo de bombeiros (que são os órgãos que resgatam os animais atropelados) utilizarão o mapa ao vivo que já é um recurso disponível no site, para fazer os resgates.

7. Simplify Wazer and Editor workflow for residential places

   The current method for a wazer to add their home to the map is confusing and creates more work for waze map editors. The workflow for a wazer is similar to this:

   Wazer selects the yellow triangle (if it's displayed on their map)

   Next selects "Place"

   (now it is about to get really confusing)

   Wazer must take a picture

   The next screen says "Select Place" with a text field that says "Enter Place name".
   
   For a residence, the wazer should not enter a place name. Just below the text field there is apparently a "button" that if tapped will add "This is a residential place".

   But if the wazer enters a place name in the text field above, there is then no option to select the button "This is a residential place"

   Based on the volume of PURs where wazers are trying to add a residence to the map, most are entering a place name and never realize that they should have tapped "This is a residential place".

   Next they are asked to select a category. Since there is no category for an RPP, they must choose the best from a list that isn't helpful for an RPP.

   Making matters worse, the first listed category is "Parking Lot" and again, based on the large volume of PURs for residences, it appears that most wazers select the first choice : "parking lot"

   Now more work is created for the Waze map editor because as long as the PUR says "parking lot" the option to "convert to residential/private address" is not available. so the editor must first remove the parking lot category before the place can be converted to an RPP.

   It would be much simpler and reduce workload for editors if the app just gave a wazer a much more clear path when all they wanted to do was add their home to the map.

   Instead of asking them for a name of the place, ask them if this is a residence or a business. Based on that answer alone, you should be able to much more completely simplify the wazer workflow and the editor work flow.

11. Map Screen Navigation/Zoom for non-touchscreen

    So, some vehicle manufacturers use a touch screen, and others use rotary knobs or similar for screen navigation. Android Auto forced manufacturers to choose one or the other in the event that they have the capability of both.

    The problem encountered on Waze is that for non-touch screen versions, there is a loss of major functionality. One of which is the ability to change the zoom level or move the focus on the map while moving. There are often times where you will see a traffic jam, or something similar, and it is helpful to change the zoom or focus so that you can see the extent of the backup and make a quick decision to take the next exit or not. (This is just one scenario - and bear in mind, I am aware that this is not likely safe for the driver... but luckily, my car has room for at least one more passenger who could do this)

    So, in my car with a touch screen, this is as easy as a pinch zoom or swipe with fingers to scroll around on the map. But, in a vehicle with touch screen disabled (in my case with a rotary knob), you can only zoom in or out, and that can only be done at a full stop. I have one of each type of vehicle.

    Seems like they could have the zoom and possibly add a button to move the screen to accommodate the lack of touch screen capability (I know the zoom could be unlocked and that at least works from a stop).

    In vehicle settings it would be really useful to show vans as the speed limits are different usually 10mph less but you could check this. Thanks

13. Wake up command and Voice Reporting

    Hi the New beta is fine but we still need a button to report by speech, because you are still forced to press buttons on smartphone to report a situation we need a wake up command IN WAZE

    (like hi Waze please report traffic ahead). Or Hi Waze Report. And Waze says: what would you like to report? Traffic ahead.

    Waze stays more unsafe till there is a solution where drivers using Waze don't have to let go of their steering wheel and gear.

14. Give the option yo mute certain alerts.

    I don't need to have an audible alert for every kind of alert. If I travel a long trip knowing a vehicle on shoulder ahead every five minutes is annoying.

    Low bridges (rail and road) are an issue throughout Westchester County, NY and over-height trucks frequently strike these bridges. Apparently on S Main (Rt 1) in Port Chester, Metro North is reporting a low bridge as an object in the road (for several months).
    The problem here is, I would never consider a bridge as an 'object in road'. Rather, this alert distracts from looking at the low bridge warning signs. Drivers would pay attention to a permanent alert of a low bridge for this and other sites. Or for navigation by over-height vehicles, adding an option in settings/navigation to avoid low bridges would be as helpful as current option: 'avoid difficult intersections'.

16. Pointer arrow options for different vehicles

    Hi team! Love the app I have one suggestion for future update: with the current version we cannot change the blue car, can we get different arrow options to choose from? Maybe sports car, truck, spaceship, tractor, boat, police car, limo, Android auto arrow?

17. NHVR alert

    The national heavy vehicle regulator (NHVR) is Australia's independent regulator for heavy vehicles (over 4.5 tonnes) and is responsible for enforcing the Heavy Vehicle National Law. In other words they are an absolute pain in the ****. NHVR can set up on weigh bridges and/or “pads” and float around rural towns pulling over anyone they please.
    At the moment the only way of knowing NHVR are around or set up is through communicating with other truckies on the rd or Facebook pages.
    I know there is already an alert on Waze for police but I believe having an alert separately for NHVR is essential for our heavy vehicle operators, avoiding ridiculous fines and time wasted during their travels.
    I believe having this alert available on Waze, there will be a huge increase in users.
    Please take this idea into consideration.

19. ​Show Forward and Reverse Route Options with Distances on Two-Way Roads

    I would like to suggest a feature that could enhance user experience when recalculating routes on two-way streets. The idea is that, upon initiating or redefining a route while the vehicle is stationary on such roads, the app would display indicators both ahead and behind the vehicle. These indicators would show the distance and estimated time for both directions, allowing the driver to choose the most efficient route. For example, if proceeding forward results in a 3.5 km journey and turning around leads to a 2.8 km route, the user could opt for the shorter and quicker alternative.

    I believe this improvement would provide more intuitive and efficient navigation, benefiting the Waze user community.

20. Use front-facing camera to do things (if available)

    I position my iPhone in a cradle that attaches to the windscreen, and I think that I'm not alone. This camera has a pretty unobstructed view of the road ahead, which Waze could use to produce awesomeness! I can immediately think of a number of cool things that you could do with this, depending on how much image processing you want to do. Here are some user stories for you :)

    As a: User concerned about recording details for insurance purposes in the event of an accident
    I would like: Waze to record the field of view in front of me on a loop of user-selectable duration and save that loop to my videos in the event of an accident (as detected by the device's accelerometer, or other means)

    So that: I can review the details of any incident at a later date

    As a: Waze user that likes to help other Waze users by posting traffic updates
    I would like: Waze to examine the field of view in front of the vehicle (in conjunction with the GPS-detected velocity) and automatically determine if the traffic is heavy, or and prompt me to see if I want to send an update (or just do it automatically, if I've given Waze permission to do so in some settings option)

    So that: I don't have to manually do this, and the frequency of updates can be greatly increased

    As a: Waze user that likes to help other Waze users by posting hazard updates
    I would like: Waze to examine the field of view in front of the vehicle and detect common road hazards (objects in the road, on the shoulder, etc)

    So that: I don't have to manually do this, and the frequency of updates can be greatly increased

    So that: Other users don't get out-of-date information about events on their route

    I would like: Waze to monitor the driver's posture, eyes and motion via the front-facing camera and look for signs of tiredness
    So that: I can recieve a loud alert in the event that I inadvertantly become drowsy, which either suprises me into a more alert state so that I can safely stop, or alerts other occupants of the vehicle to the situation

    OK, that's some camera ideas. Here are some other ones:

    I would like: Waze to (have the option to) prompt me to stop approximately every two hours and propose some local stopping place (service station, restaurant, cafe, hotel, etc)

    So that: I find it more difficult to accidentally drive for unadvisably long periods

    I would like: To be able to install a "Waze: Co-pilot" app on an iPad (Air, mini, pro, etc) that would interact with the current Waze app (lets call it "Waz; Navigator") and allow the vehicle's "co-pilot" to analyse various navigation options on the "secondary" device and make course changes that will be seen on the "navigator" device.

    So that: The driver doesn't have to be distracted with making changes and decisions while the vehicle is in motion

    As a: Driver, with a co-pilot receiving, receiving a prompt to stop
    I would like: Information to be presented to the co-pilot to be sourced from some third-party travel information provider, such as Trip Advisor

    So that: We can crowd source reviews of the standard of stopping places

    As a: Driver without a co-pilot receiving a prompt to stop
    I would like: To simply be told to stop "at the next available stopping place"

    So that: I'm not needlessly distracted from the task of driving the vehicle

    As a: Waze user who wants to see additional, non-traffic, information on the map
    I would like: To be able to see a variety of "overlays" on top of the current Waze map

    So that: I can see things like the wind speed and direction on the road ahead, or the amount of rain, or the temperature (in case of ice, for example), or the gradient of the terrain

    As a: Waze user that has placed the device out of easy reach
    I would like: Waze to listen for the direction "Waze!" and be able to perform various tasks through voice interactions
    So that: I can drive with minimal distraction due to trying to interact via touch

    I'm thinking something like:
    "Waze, report heavy traffic"
    "Waze, report hazard on the shoulder of this carriageway"
    "Waze, plot route to <some kind of address>"
    "Waze, take me home"
    "Waze, reroute around an obstruction for 5 miles"
    ]

    I position my iPhone in a cradle that attaches to the windscreen, and I think that I'm not alone. This camera has a pretty unobstructed view of the road ahead, which Waze could use to produce awesomeness! I can immediately think of a number of cool things that you could do with this, depending on how much image processing you want to do. Here are some user stories for you :)
