   I’ve observed a recurring issue throughout the Jacksonville, Florida area involving the reporting of gas prices. It is common for users to update only one octane level—often incorrectly—seemingly for the sole purpose of earning points. One user in particular, “Ms-Royalty,” frequently updates just a single gas price, typically for regular (87 octane), with entries like “3.050,” which are often inaccurate.

   This behavior undermines the purpose of the platform, which is intended to provide accurate, up-to-date information for the benefit of all users. It appears this activity has been ongoing for at least a year, if not longer.

   I recommend that this user—and others who follow similar patterns—be restricted from submitting gas prices unless they are willing to provide complete and accurate updates.

2. Automatic Protection Against False Report Modifications

   I would like to request a feature that detects and restricts users who repeatedly remove or modify valid reports, such as police presence, without a legitimate reason. In some areas, authorities have been clearing active reports intentionally to hide their locations, which reduces the reliability of Waze information for other drivers.

   It would be beneficial if Waze could implement an automated system to identify frequent false removals and take appropriate action (e.g., warnings or temporary bans), helping maintain the accuracy and trustworthiness of the reporting system.

3. Truck drivers distort the measured speeds. If they were treated separately, WAZE would be much more accurate.

   It may be that there's no interest in optimizing the app for vehicles over 3.5 tons, such as motorhomes, trucks, buses, and the like, but drivers of precisely these vehicles still use Waze because Waze is simply one of the best navigation apps. However, these typically much slower vehicles distort the average speeds of users determined by Waze, so it would certainly make the app much more accurate if users could enter their vehicle data, such as weight and size, so that the data can be assigned accordingly when collecting the returned data. In return, truck drivers would then benefit from finally no longer being offered routes along roads with weight restrictions.

4. Work

   I’d like to request multiple work place favorites along with 2 Home favorites instead of only ONE Home option currently available. ‘Home’ or ‘Work’ is simply name. Users could call them anything they wish. But for easier navigation sake, to be able to save with more than just one HOME or one WORK, the obvious merits are flexible user experiences. By the way, does WAZE necessarily restrict users to only one Home and one Work? Is there more inconvenient or anything to lose if more homes and work places are possible? They could be your friends’ homes, siblings’, relatives’, etc or different work sites, stations, business branches, etc.

5. No access to “…. car park”

   When I want to park at a car park like Sainsbury’s, Tesco, or Morrisons, I sometimes see signs that say “No access to Morrisons Car Park.” In these cases, you can still use the road, but you’re not allowed to enter the Morrisons car park from that direction.

   Could there be an option for users to mark places where these types of signs are posted, so others know not to take that route if they’re specifically trying to access the car park?

   Maybe when searching for an address and selecting “car park,” the route guidance could avoid roads that have restricted access signs like “No Access to Car Park” and instead suggest a different route that actually allows entry to the car park.

   À la suite des récents comités ministériels, la zone administrative de surveillance « Nice », comprenant la Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, est désormais classée en « Territoire de Vigilance ». Aussi, au 1er janvier 2024 ce sont les restrictions ZFE 2023 qui s’appliquent pour une durée indéterminée (voir arrêté modificatif du 19 février 2024).

   A ce jour, l’application Android Waze, indique un risque d’amende pour une destination dans le périmètre de la ZFE, pour un VL ou VUL vignette Crit’Air 4.

   Or il s’agit d’une erreur, les véhicules Crit’Air 0, 1, 2, 3 et 4 sont autorisés à circuler dans la ZFE au 01 janvier 2024. (seuls les véhicules Crit’Air 5 et non classés sont interdits et donc soumis à une amende)

   Pourriez-vous tenir compte de cette information et mettre à jour l’application Waze.

7. A couple of suggestions

   Hello,

   Recently, the application has been frequently unresponsive to touches. This is not a phone error.

   It would be helpful if a long press could be used to select a segment on the route that I do not want to take, so that the application can calculate an alternate route. It would also be great if I could create a blacklist of segments that I don't want/can't drive on.

   Why can't buildings be displayed on the map for better orientation, or at least their numbers, even if only within, say, 200m of the destination?

   It would also be great if delays at intersections in towns could be taken into account when calculating the route.

   Also, a mode for larger or heavier vehicles would be useful, not just for trucks but also for recreational vehicles, to take into account dimensions, weight, and maximum speed. Users could enter such restrictions on the routes themselves (similar to maximum speed limits).

   It would be helpful to have road ratings so that better-maintained roads are preferred over slightly shorter but rougher routes.

   Many road hazards affect both directions of travel (if not separated), so it would be good if alerts such as accidents, police, or bad weather are valid for both directions simultaneously.

8. Suggestion for improvements to the charging station search on Waze

   Dear Sir/Madam,
   With the proliferation of electric vehicles, it is crucial to optimize the charging station search on Waze to make it a recommended reference. Below, I propose specific improvements to enhance this feature.

   1. AA CarPlay / Displaying power, not speed status
      Currently, on Android Auto, I notice that Waze displays vague indications ("Fast", "Medium", "Very Fast") rather than the power in kW. I would like the exact power to be indicated to better inform users.

   2. App / Displaying availability on the map
      This feature, which was previously available, has disappeared. I find that displaying the number of free connectors directly on the map when searching for a station via the "Charging Station" tab is visually very useful, and I would like to see it reintroduced.

   3. App / Separate display for 2 different power levels for the same connector

   For example, a station with 8 CCS at 300 kW and 2 CCS at 150 kW is displayed as 10 CCS at 300 kW, which is misleading. I suggest displaying each power level separately with the corresponding number of connectors for greater clarity.

   1. App / Adding a filter
      I suggest adding the following filters to facilitate searching:
      A "restricted" filter to sort stations by their status (public, restricted, private).
      A power filter with three ranges: < 22 kW, 23-99 kW, > 100 kW, or all.
      A filter for stations accepting credit cards, based on the option already checked in the editor.

   2. CarPlay, AA / display the same level of information
      I notice marked differences between Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On CarPlay, only basic information like the address is displayed, while Android Auto includes location, real-time availability, and services. Similarly, on the mobile app, Android offers filters ("open," "fast charging") that are absent on iOS. I would like to see harmonization for a consistent experience.

   3. App / Sort the proposed networks alphabetically
      In France, the list of operators lacks logic. I propose alphabetical sorting to simplify navigation and avoid confusing users.

   4. AndroidAuto CarPlay / Display the "About Us" section
      Some stations include relevant information in the "About Us" section, but it is not visible on Android Auto or CarPlay. I would like this section to be accessible to enrich the available information.

9. Add warnings for PCN camera traps (mainly London)

   Like speed cameras, add PCN cameras (Moving Traffic Cameras) to Waze warnings please!!

   Over lockdown there've been several strange changes made to how traffic is allowed to use certain roads in London.
   Camera traps have sprung up all over the place to catch people out. These cameras give fines for using roads in ways which used to be totally acceptable before lockdown. Issuing £65+ fines for using a roads in what is suddenly the wrong direction, end to enter certain roads from, time of day, parking and so on.

   None of these changes in these roads use have anything to do with public safety they're just out to make money.
   I've been caught twice in the space of 2 weeks using roads which were always free, non restrictive, access a year ago. The signage is there but it's hard to break habits of a lifetime and from speaking to several Uber drivers who are on London's roads every day for a living I know the increase in these cameras in highly unusual places has had a massive impact on their income. They don't get paid a lot really and they don't get any kind of reduced fine just because they're drivers for a living.

   I think Waze would see an even bigger uptake in popularity if these camera traps were highlighted on their maps.

   Two examples are 'Manor Place Junction Braganza Street' in Southwark and 'Binfield Road' in Lambeth.

10. favorites system & usability

    The favorites system in this app feels extremely limited and unintuitive, making saving and using favorites unnecessarily difficult.

    Instead of a proper favorites list, the app relies on a single horizontal bar that requires swiping left and right. This design does not scale: once more than a few locations are saved, finding anything becomes a guessing game.

    Fixed locations (Home and Work)

    Several locations such as Home and Work are fixed and cannot be customized:
    - Names cannot be renamed
    - Icons are oversized
    - Labels are too long and take up excessive space
    - Entries cannot be deleted or reordered

    This is especially problematic for students who do not have a fixed Work location. I know where my university is and do not need a permanent work shortcut, yet I am forced to keep it. At the same time, I cannot add the locations I actually need in a clean, usable way.

    Real-world use cases

    • I have two homes that I regularly navigate to
    • I need quick access to family addresses
    • My university has multiple buildings in different cities

    With the current system, saving 15–20 addresses makes the favorites bar completely unusable. There is no overview, no structure, and no meaningful way to organize anything.

    Expected improvements

    • A real favorites list, not just a swipeable bar
    • A customizable top bar with only the most important favorites
    • Full control to rename, reorder, or remove all favorites (including Home and Work)
    • Optional folders (Family, Friends, University, Other)
    • No forced integration with contacts or calendar

    Other navigation apps handle favorites far better. This app’s approach feels outdated and restrictive. Everything else works well, but the favorites system actively discourages saving locations and makes daily navigation harder than necessary. (an example of an app that has really intuitive ui is "here we go"). I just overall preferred waze, but this is like something that makes it almost unusable to me

11. Design Limitations in Waze

    Dear Waze,
    I appreciate how Waze has improved real-time navigation, but it seems to be designed for experienced urban drivers who prioritize speed and can easily handle notifications. This may exclude and endanger those with different driving abilities and priorities. In this email, I outline four key design issues and suggest solutions to make Waze more inclusive. My observations come from personal experience with the platform and relevant academic research.
    Firstly, Waze selects the fastest route automatically but doesn’t factor in risks like high crime areas, poorly lit areas, or dangerous road conditions. This has had real consequences, like in 2015, when Regina Murmura was led into a dangerous favela in Brazil and killed by local gang members. Since then, Waze has introduced high-risk area alerts in Brazil and Israel. However, most users still lack this feature, placing vulnerable drivers, such as older adults, new drivers, tourists, gig workers, and women, at higher risk. Winner (1980) argues that technology is not neutral, as its design choices reflect social values and may have political outcomes. Waze’s algorithm appears neutral, but because it prioritizes speed over safety, it favors confident, experienced drivers while putting others at risk. This is not a technical limitation but a design choice that reinforces inequality. To avoid this, Waze should supplement its algorithm with official safety data (e.g., crime reports and lighting conditions) and provide a "Safety first" routing option, guaranteeing that every user has equal access to a safe driving experience.
    Secondly, because Waze relies heavily on user reports, it assumes roads without reports are safe. However, this results in a geographical bias because hazard notifications are less frequent in places with fewer active users, such as rural communities, low-income neighborhoods, or roads during off-peak hours. For instance, rural drivers in areas with few Waze users and gig workers driving late at night may miss important hazard alerts, making navigation less reliable and possibly dangerous. Kitchin (2014) critiques the rise of data-driven science. Arguing that big data does not provide an objective reality but an "Oligoptic view," a partial view shaped by who collects data and where. In this case, Waze assumes that missing reports indicate evidence of safety rather than a lack of participation. Kitchin contends that theory should supplement data-driven science to prevent flawed conclusions. Similarly, Waze should not only rely on crowdsourced reports and road traffic data but add official safety data (e.g., police crime reports and municipal road conditions) to ensure that missing data does not create blind spots to navigation safety.
    Thirdly, Waze has two main issues when handling hazards: it doesn’t immediately reroute drivers when conditions are risky and depends on user reports rather than accurate weather data. While users can manually report dangers like ice, snow, or flooding, these warnings don't adjust the routes, which puts drivers at risk. This affects everyone in extreme weather conditions, but gig workers and low-income are disproportionately affected since they may not have access to proper winter gear. I experienced this firsthand after a snowstorm in Montreal when I took an Uber; despite dangerous conditions, we were systematically routed onto unplowed streets rather than safer main roads. Morozov (2013) critiques “solutionism,” the tendency of tech companies to define problems too narrowly and neglecting broader complexities. This is exemplified by Waze, which disregards social, economic, and environmental issues in favor of the fastest route. Morozov warns against one-size-fits-all, Western-centered technological solutions that may not apply across all contexts. By supplementing its user reports with real-time weather data and municipal road conditions, Waze would ensure that users are actively relocated when necessary.
    Finally, Waze can be more distracting than helpful due to its game-like features and constant notifications. As the app offers leaderboards, points, and badges for reporting risks it incentivizes users to remain engaged even while driving. Furthermore, its pop-up notifications must be manually dismissed, further distracting driving. This design choice unequally affects new drivers, who need to focus on the road; neurodivergent drivers (e.g., ADHD), who may be overwhelmed with many notifications; and older adults, who may struggle to process or remove alerts quickly. Zuboff (2019) critiques surveillance capitalism, arguing that platforms are designed not just to provide services but to profit from behavioral surplus (data beyond what is required to improve services). She argues that digital platforms are not neutral; they shape user behavior to serve corporate interests by manipulating user behavior to maximize engagement. This directly relates to Waze; by transforming a navigation tool into a game, it prioritizes data collection over user safety. Waze should implement a driver mode that restricts intrusive notifications and prioritizes voice-based safety alerts, maintaining the focus on the road rather than on the app.
    In conclusion, Waze’s current design is too focused on speed and engagement. It provides incomplete safety data, which leaves vulnerable drivers, gig workers, low-income communities, and those in extreme weather conditions to face unsafe driving conditions. Waze should offer a safety-first routing option, add official data to supplement user reports and reduce nonessential app interactions. These changes will guarantee that navigation remains a tool for safety rather than just efficiency or engagement.
